2K Recruits Popular Battle Royale Producer to Rescue Challenged Hero Shooter Ambitious Title
2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Leadership Change Follows Poor Reception
Brinkman assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming early showing last fall.
Recently, 2K president a key figure updated employees about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had shown the need for a distinct vision.
Ismailer noted that the developers is now refining the project with a renewed approach, aiming to better meet player expectations.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement mirrors a similar step taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the complete content from the president's memo:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and talented creators we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re excited for that partnership to persist.”
With your dedication and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was enlightening. It validated the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the need for a sharper identity.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the feedback to consideration and reimagined the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s ready to deliver on its potential to our players.
Our confidence in this project grows every day. To advance the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of 31st Union. Following a period of talks, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.
Ben’s leadership and experience in the PVP shooter space is vast, having devoted the past decade and a half developing and leading some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in receiving Ben next week. We are all eager to keep observing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the months to come.
David

Title Details and Vision
Project Ethos was revealed in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Then, the developers described the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting evolution on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch states. "Face the opponents with fresh skills, stakes, and obstacles that evolve every session. Will you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively aim high, gamble everything, and pray your group can achieve the highest spot? The decision is in your hands."
The game has not yet received an official launch window or platforms, but enthusiasts can expect more updates as production advances.
