Catherine's Yearly Christmas Carol Concert Honours Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.

The 1,600 guests will hear a blend of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as award-winning actors.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a message before the festive gathering.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists aided by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of instrumental training.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the trust, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be people from various age groups.

That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for community pantries.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
