Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any harm in association with the incident," they added.
City officials stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for information.
A senior representative commented the vandalism left him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the death of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
